File Formats

Currently Vercator Desktop supports the following file formats:

Input: ptx*, pts*, e57*, Faro fls, Z+F zfs, Riegl rdbx

*must be 1 scan per file only

Unstructured Formats
Due to the nature of the algorithm Vercator uses, scan data that is input in pts may cause issues if they are not generated with the scanner position at 0,0,0.

This is because the scanner position has to be calculated unlike for fls, zfs, e57, rdbx or ptx and so we recommend using these formats where possible.

Output: xyz, ply, pts, e57, las, laz, Autodesk rcs



FLS support in Vercator Desktop requires the Scene API to be installed. If it is installed a message confirming that fls is supported is shown in the Tools menu as below.

If this is not currently the case then the Install Faro Scene Redistributable option will be available. First restart Vercator with Admin Privileges as pictured by right-clicking on the Vercator program and choosing Run as administrator.

Then go to Tools and select the Install Faro Scene Redistributable option to install the Scene API and dependencies and enable fls support. Vercator should be restarted normally after this installation.

If an exception error occurs on processing fls files then a file rather than a folder may have been chosen. See Troubleshooting for more help on this.


Currently only one scan per file is supported. To split up a PTX with multiple scans inside into single scans use the PTX split tool in the Tools menu of Vercator Desktop.


Currently only one scan per file is supported for e57.


Output Data Order for Text Files (xyz, txt)

The output data per row order is one of the below:

  1. X, Y, Z (optional R, G, B) (optional Nx, Ny, Nz) (optional I)

The optional values are written when available.
